OLYMPIANS, GODS & HEROES
DANIEL SAMUELS, FRSA
Daniel Samuels "Daniel" (1916-1988), FELLOW OF THE ROYAL SOCIETY OF ART, LONDON, is one of the few painters ever to be invited to submit his paintings for the Tate Gallery Permanent Collection. His work is widely sought by collectors worldwide. However, because he only completed 100 paintings in his unique “Olympians, Gods and Heroes” opera, Daniel's originals are rarely seen in private or public collections. The world famous plastic surgeon and patron of the arts, Lewis J. Obi MD, FRSA, became acquainted with Daniel in 1971 and after acquiring more than a dozen of his paintings, he established the international art firm of Obiarts Inc. In collaboration with the artist, master lithographer Ronald Wilson, printers Renoir of London and color studio 82 (Hull, Humberside), Obiarts™ produced a prestigious and elegant portfolio of six lithographs. The portfolio was limited to an edition of 295 all signed and carefully supervised by the artist and the Obiarts team. Originally, the production of “Olympians, Gods and Heroes” was intended for the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles but since the production was not completed until 1985, the premier showing of Daniel's Lithographs was held in New York City in 1986. Lord Charles Spencer Churchill and Ambassador Dudley were the official hosts at the Westberry Hotel in the upper Eastside of New York. In attendance were more than 200 guests including Donald and Ivana Trump, Estee Lauder, Glady Nederlander and other dignitaries. The event was published in the New York Daily News, W magazine and the New York Times. Almost three decades later, “Olympians, Gods and Heroes in the World of Daniel” is being presented in time for the 2012 Summer Olympics in England. How appropriate is it that the most famous British painter of classical Olympian Saga is posthumously featured at the English Summer Olympics this year. To commemorate this event, a very limited number of the remaining original signed and numbered portfolio sets are being offered to select collectors.
